Why we ask instead of looking it up
Only the Senior Civil Service has published national pay bands. For AA through Grade 6, each department negotiates its own ranges within the Cabinet Office pay remit — which was capped at 3.5% for 2026/27 — and departments settle in different months. What is published centrally is the median salary at each grade and in each organisation, from Civil Service Statistics as at 31 March 2026. We use that as a starting figure and a benchmark, not as your rate of pay.
